Canoe Handler
A canoe handler is anyone who works mostly outside (as opposed to working in the office). On busy days a Canoe Handler can be broken down into three seperate job descriptions.
Driver - Not all Canoe Handlers will be drivers. Only employees 18 and over will be permitted to drive. Drivers are responsible for keeping their vehicles clean. The drivers are expected to emphasize customer service loading customers into their vehicles and helping them into their boat at the drop off point. In addition drivers are required to do all job duties listed below
 
The Dock will help customers out of their boats once they finish their trip at the canoe livery. In some circumstances they will go with a driver to help them unload customers at drop off points. In addition Dock Men are required to do all job duties listed below.
 
The Yard- The yard is the most important position. One person will monitor the customers in the waiting area. Based on number of people, canoes, kayaks, trip number, and waiting time, The Yard will regulate which customers get into what vehicles.
 
General Canoe Handler Job Description
  • The most important task of a canoe handler is providing superior customer service. .
  • Canoe Handlers are responsible for all the equipment. (Treat the equipment as if it was your own!)
  • Canoe Handlers are responsible for the outlook of the Canoe Livery. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Cleaning the vehicle includes taking all trash out, cleaning the dashboards and windows, sweeping out the inside, and vacuuming the inside.
    • Mowing
    • Weed-eating
    • Cleaning lifejackets
    • Cleaning restrooms
    • Cleaning canoes and kayaks
  • Employees must come to work wearing their Hocking Valley Canoe Livery staff T-shirt. Employees will be issued one T-shirt and are expected to wear it at work.
  • Canoe Handlers must have a positive attitude. A friendly easy going personality is also necessary. They must love people and at the same time not mind working hard. Working together with a positive attitude makes the operation run efficiently.
Qualifications

Positive work attitude

Available for work during weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day

Friendly, enthusiastic, good with people and work well with others.

Must be available to work through Labor Day.

Work all holiday weekends, and most weekends through the season.

Work most moonlight and torchlight trips

Attend staff training.

Participate in periodic gatherings, meetings, and outings.

Knowledgeable about vehicle repair and small engines
