Moonlight Canoe Trip

The Moonlight Canoe Trip is a calm, unforgettable way to experience the river after dark. As the sun sets and the moon rises, guests paddle a peaceful 5-mile stretch of water under the night sky, surrounded by quiet reflections and the sounds of nature. With minimal river traffic and a gentle current, the river feels slow, serene, and completely different from a daytime paddle.

About our Romantic Moonlight Canoe Trip

Night time canoeing is a magical experience. The Hocking River is calm and peaceful a before the night fall. Paddle the Hocking River as it quietly settles in for the night. The full moon shines bright to lead the way; but do not only use your sense of sight. Let your other senses guide as you will find something surreal about the water, the trees and the surrounding wildlife.

Trip Details:

  • The trip launches at our Crocketts Run launch and concludes at the canoe livery landing.
  • Plan to be on the river about 1-2 hours.
  • Prepare to paddle the first hour during the sunset and the second hour under the full moon.

Full Moon Descriptions

June 27th Strawberry Moon-  Named by Native American tribes, June was peak seask season for harvesting wild strawberries. This moon marks the start of summer harvest season  

Saturday July 25th  Buck Moon- This moon marks the time of the year when male deer begin regrowing their antlers, symbolizing strength, development, and rising power.

August 25th Sturgeon Moon –  Named by the Native American tribes around the great lakes. ad fish, were plentiful and essential for sustenance. This Moon honors resilience and long-term survival.

September 26 Harvest Moon – It is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox. Traditionally the full moon helped farmers harvst crops late into the evening because the moon rises shortly after sunset for several nights in a row-
