About Hocking Hills Adventures
50 Years on the Hocking River
For 50 years, Hocking Hills Adventures has been helping people experience the river the right way. Founded in 1976 by Lew Barbini, who started with just 10 aluminum canoes and a simple goal—to give people a great day on the river. What began as a small canoe livery has grown over the years, but the focus has always remained the same: creating easy, enjoyable outdoor experiences for every guest.
Today, the business has been passed on to the second generation, continuing the same values it was built on. While we’ve expanded to offer tubing, camping, lodging, and more, we’ve stayed committed to making your trip simple, smooth, and memorable from start to finish.
After five decades on the river, we’ve learned what makes a great experience—and what doesn’t.
✔️ How to keep your trip running smoothly
✔️ How to avoid common frustrations
✔️ How to create the right pace and atmosphere
When you show up, everything is dialed in so you can just enjoy the day.
As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we’re grateful for the thousands of guests who have been part of the journey. Thank you for being part of this very special year—we’re proud to continue the tradition and look forward to many more seasons on the river.
