Every year thousands of families, couples, and adventure seekers make their way to one of the most beautiful natural regions in the Midwest. We’re Hocking Hills Adventures — family-owned since 1976, and we’ve spent 50 years helping guests experience this incredible region the right way.
This is your complete 2026 guide to camping in Hocking Hills. Let’s get into it.
Why Camp in Hocking Hills?
Hocking Hills is unlike anywhere else in Ohio. Ancient sandstone cliffs, old-growth forests, crystal-clear streams, and the winding Hocking River create a landscape that feels worlds away from everyday life.
But beyond the scenery, Hocking Hills offers something rare — true peace and quiet. Whether you’re waking up to birdsong along the river or sitting around a campfire under a canopy of stars, camping here reconnects you with nature in a way that’s hard to find anywhere else.
Types of Camping in Hocking Hills
Not all camping here is the same. Depending on what kind of trip you want, your experience can be completely different.
1. State Park Camping
Hocking Hills State Park is the most popular option. It’s clean and well maintained, but it’s also crowded — especially on weekends.
2. Private Campgrounds
These are usually more relaxed and spread out. You’ll get a little more space and a quieter experience.
3. Riverside Camping (Best Experience in My Opinion)
Camping along the river is hard to beat. You get the sound of the water, better views, and it just feels like a true getaway.
The catch? There aren’t a ton of true riverside sites — so they tend to book up fast.
4. Glamping & Yurts
If you want the outdoors without “roughing it,” this is a great option. Beds, bathrooms, and still surrounded by nature.
