Not all Tubing Trips are the same
If you’ve gone tubing before, you might think every place offers the same experience.
Show up. Get a tube. Float.
But that’s not how we do it at Hocking Hills Adventures.
We’ve spent over 50 years on the river, and we’ve learned that the difference between an average day and an awesome day comes down to the details.
Here’s what makes our tubing experience different—and why it matters for your trip.
We Adjust Your Route Based on Water Conditions
This is one of the biggest differences—and most people don’t even realize it.
Water levels on the Hocking River change constantly depending on weather and rainfall.
Most places send everyone on the same route no matter what.
That can lead to:
- Long, slow, frustrating floats
- Or trips that feel rushed and too fast
We adjust your tubing route based on the river conditions that day.
✔️ Lower water = shorter, smoother route
✔️ Higher water = adjusted for safety and fun
👉 The goal is simple:
Your trip should feel just right—not too long, not too short.
The Right Tube Makes a Big Difference
We offer different options so you can customize your experience:
- Tubes with bottoms (more comfort and support)
- Tubes without bottoms (classic river feel)
- Double tubes (perfect for couples or young) children
- Cooler tubes (yes… bring your drinks along)
Whether you want to relax, socialize, or float all day—we’ve got the setup for it.
Escape the Crowd, Embrace the Quiet
You’ve probably seen it before.
The massive buses.
The packed parking lots.
Hundreds of tubes all crammed onto the river at the same time.
For some people, that’s the “classic” tubing experience.
Loud. Crowded. Chaotic.
At Hocking Hills Adventures, we believe your river trip should be an authentic adventure, tailored to your flow, not a mass-produced “Mega Float.” For 50 years, we’ve focused on delivering the real Hocking Hills – the serene, stunningly scenic parts of the river that make this region so special.

Choosing Your Vibe: The "Social Saturday" vs. The "Serene Sunday-Friday
Not all river days are created equal. Depending on who is in your tube, you might want a floating party or a floating sanctuary. We are the only outfitter that gives you the honest truth so you can plan the perfect trip for your family.
Every day on the river has a different vibe—and we’re honest about it.
The Saturday “Social” Float
Best for: Groups of friends, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and social butterflies.
The Vibe: High energy and a “floating festival” atmosphere. Saturdays on the Hocking River are a local tradition where the river becomes a community.
What to Expect: More music, more laughter, and plenty of opportunities to meet fellow travelers. It’s vibrant, loud, and full of life.
Pro-Tip: Book early! Our red tubes are the most popular on the river, and Saturdays sell out fast.
The Sunday–Friday “Family Sanctuary”
Best for: Families with young children, couples seeking a romantic escape, and nature photographers.
The Vibe: Peace, quiet, and total immersion in the Hocking Hills. This is when the river truly “breathes.”
What to Expect: You’ll likely have stretches of the river all to yourself. It is significantly quieter, making it easier to spot the Great Blue Herons, turtles, and deer that call our banks home.
Why Families Love It: Without the “Saturday Crowd,” it’s much easier to keep your group together. You can drift at your own pace, hold a conversation without shouting over music, and truly let the kids explore the natural world around them.
The “Parental Win”: Less chaos at the launch point means a faster transition from the car to the water.
Our Advice: If you have the flexibility to visit during the week or on a Sunday, you’ll experience the Hocking River exactly the way it looked 50 years ago when we first started: untouched, tranquil, and entirely yours.
Want the Best of Both Worlds? Mix Tubes + Canoes
Here’s something a lot of people don’t think about:
👉 Tubing is slower than canoeing or kayaking.
So if your group wants to stay together, you can:
✔️ Rent a canoe or kayak
✔️ Rent tubes
✔️ Tie them together and float as a group
💡 Pro Tip: Bring your own rope to make it easy.
This is a great way to:
- Keep your group together
- Add flexibility to your trip
- Make it more fun and interactive
